Virginia county rules
Prince Edward County, VA vacation rental rules and taxes
Prince Edward County, home to Farmville, Longwood, and Hampden-Sydney, allows “short-term tourist rentals” by right in its two agricultural districts and with a special use permit in its residential and college residential districts. Stays pay 5.3% sales tax plus the county’s 7% lodging tax.
Checked against official sources November 7, 2026In 2024 the Planning Commission recommended a permit near Hampden-Sydney after the owner offered limits (no renters under 25, two guests at most) and the commission asked for a landline phone. Expect conditions like these on a residential permit.
We read the zoning through a third-party copy (amended through March 2025). Confirm with the county before you list.
